History
Famous Onsen Streets in Kanto Area
that has a magnificent beautiful valley
It was discovered in 1692, and it is said that only feudal lords and Buddhist monks on their way back from visiting Nikko could use it, because it lay in the territory of the shrines and temples of Nikko.
It was called “Taki Onsen” before, and it has been opened to the public since the Meiji period. “Fujiwara Onsen” was discovered at Utsunomiya in 1869, and those Onsen have been called “Kinugawa Onsen”since 1927.
At the same time, Kinugaa Onsen develoved as one of the most popular Onsen resorts in Kanto area, in accordance with the railway maintainance that started from Shimotsuke track. This is the origin of modern Kinugawa Onsen-kyo today.
The famous landscape of Kinugawa Onsen is that big and small inns and hotels lining up along Kinugawa river. You can enjoy seasonal views from your accomodations.
The spring quality of Kinugawa Onsen is classified as a simple weak alkalinity spring. It has beneficial effects for neuralgia, frozen shoulders, recovery from exhaustion and health promotion. Since our Onsen is kind to the skin, we recommend it to those who firstly bathe in an Onsen.
There are EDO WONDERLAND Nikko Edomura, Tobu World Square and shrines and temples of Nikko registered as world heritages around Kinugawa Onsen. Thus, Kinugawa Onsen functions as a base for sightseeing to Nikko.
